Social media is the new ‘mix-tape’. What do ‘mix-tapes’ and social media have in common?! The answer is…the ability to share content. Recent research by BrainJuicer, for mobile provider Three, delved into the minds of 2,000 British smartphone users to discover their sharing customs.

Findings showed that a third of shared content was linked to personal photos, pet photos were also popular. The majority of these took place on Facebook. It may come as some surprise that Twitter only made up 10% of content sharing.

For brands interested in posting content to help drive engagement, the BrainJuicer/Three research on which days people shared content the most made for interesting reading. It found that Monday was the most popular day (19%) as people returned to work after the weekend, but still wanted to keep in touch with their friends.

As social creatures, we often do things by instinct. Sharing content may be one of these things. However, it is important to assess the potential impact that certain content can have when shared before you click that button and it’s out there for all to see!
